DB House

Hertfordshire, UK 2016

Area: 1130sqm

The site and the surrounding area is rural in character and within the Metropolitan Green Belt. The house marks the end of a forest and the beginning of an open vast field. As it sits on the threshold between two different ends, it emerges as a green pavilion that sits in nature and is set to embrace the views on all sides.

The structure is anchored on ground with vertical stone walls that act like pillars as they carry a heavily planted concrete roof. Vegetation starts from the ground and climbs its way upwards, rendering the house woven  to the landscape and a part of it.

The silent exterior is contrasted internally: singular spaces that remain free of spatial and visual hierarchy: each room is unique and opens up to different beautiful views of the surroundings. Spaces of different heights, colours, textures and materials connect in different ways  to form a house unique to its users.
